Tech🧑‍💻 Italy made history by becoming the first country to ban ChatGPT. The stated reason? User privacy concerns. And it appears they are not the only country with these concerns, as Germany, France, and Ireland are now conducting their own probes into ChatGPT’s data security. Since its release in November, ChatGPT has already become ingrained in many founders' lives. If you live in a country where a ban is possible, it might be wise to start looking for alternative AI chatbots.

Economy 💵 The U.S. economy added just 236,000 jobs in March, coming in below the 239,000 expectation. This is still quite a strong number, but it is also the first indication that the Fed’s efforts to cool the economy (and thus inflation) through rate hikes might be taking shape. It’ll be interesting to see if the Fed keeps hiking rates despite the cooling job market, widespread tech layoffs, and young people having an especially hard time finding work.

Management 🏢 It looks like the work-from-home era is over in America, as 72.5% of businesses are reporting that their employees rarely or never teleworked in 2022, not far off the 76.7% of businesses that reported the same before the pandemic. The reason for the change is simple: businesses are putting a greater emphasis on productivity, and they believe that employees are simply more productive in the office. Thus, if you’re a founder, don’t hesitate to bring employees into the office at least part-time, and if you’re an employee, get your commuting podcasts ready.
